Work-Life Balance Is a Myth — Here’s What We Chase Instead

We’re going to say the quiet part out loud: work-life balance is a myth.

At least, the version we were sold is. The one where you crush a full workday, make a Pinterest-worthy dinner, stay fully present for bedtime stories, and still have energy left over for yourself. Nobody is doing all of that every single day. Nobody.

After years of running businesses while raising little humans, we stopped chasing balance. Here’s what we chase instead.

  1. Seasons, not schedules. Some weeks are heavy on business — a launch, a packed calendar, a client sprint. Some weeks are heavy on family — school breaks, sick kids, life. Instead of feeling guilty that the scale never sits perfectly even, we plan around the season we’re in and let the other side flex.

  2. Essentialism over everything. If you read one book this year, make it Essentialism by Greg McKeown. The whole premise: do fewer things, better. Every time we catch ourselves drowning, it’s because we said yes to too many non-essential things. Cut the noise. Protect the vital few.

  3. Presence over “presence-ish.” Two focused hours beat eight distracted ones — at your desk and at the dinner table. We would rather fully work, then fully stop, than half-do both all day long.

  4. Delegation without guilt. Nobody hands out trophies for doing everything yourself. Handing off your inbox, your scheduling, your social media — that’s not slacking, that’s strategy. It’s also literally what we do for our clients all day.

The goal was never balance. The goal is building a business and a life you don’t need to escape from.

And if your scale has been tipped way too far toward “drowning in admin work” lately — that’s the part we can actually fix. Schedule a free 15-minute call and let’s talk about what we can take off your plate before fall hits.
